Quantcast Vegetarian StarPaula Deen On TV Is Good For You–Food Panel Agrees

Padma Lakshmi, Food 52’s Amanda Hesser, celebrity chef Charlie Trotter and author Kathleen Collins made up a panel that recently discussed whether or not food TV does anyone any good at the “Food on the Tube: How TV Shapes the Way We Think About Food” discussion.

Sure, we need to learn to cook versus ordering out, taking out and boiling processed packaged contents in the microwave every night, but do food television programs teach or are viewers just there for entertainment?

Celebrity chef Trotter, who owns Charlie Trotter, a restaurant that features an entire vegetable menu, got his first lessons in cooking in college from reading The Vegetarian Epicure and admits, like the rest of the panel, he didn’t have anyone teaching him to cook early in life.

Overall, the panel agreed that food television does educate and people pick up hints even if they’re passively watching while stuffing popcorn in their mouths.

Ex vegetarian Padma mentioned “there is a lot of bad food television out there.”

Really? Like this clip where Paul Deen puts her secret ingredient of a ton of butter in a hamburger.

One can only hope that most viewers are like those who commented on Hulu and know to stay away from danger when they see it.

“She’s trying to kill us,” says one person, while another adds, “please quit doing this show, a lot of people are going to get sick if they eat like this.
