Carrie Underwood Gets Booed For Saying She’s Vegetarian
Written by Vegetarian Star on January 29th, 2009 in Female Singers, Videos.
Although her parents were cattle ranchers, American Idol alum and country music singer Carrie Underwood became vegetarian during her teens when she was still living with them.
While mom and dad were supportive of her diet, not everyone she encounters while touring in some areas are as welcoming.
She says she has to be careful while performing in places where cattle ranching is big, because there’s a chance if she announces she’s vegetarian, she’ll get booed.
“I’m a vegetarian and there are some parts of the United States where you do not announce that to the audience,” she explains. “And while the crowd might be kind of playing with me, sometimes if I do let that slip, I do get booed. So it’s something I’m working on-keeping me vegetarianism to myself.”
Watch the video to hear Carrie explain keeping her secret to herself and find out what musician she admires.

I grew up in Oklahoma too, so I know what she means about cattle ranches. I am not vegetarian, but so close it wouldnt be a big change.
Carrie use to go sit with my Uncle Coby when he wasn’t able to be left alone, my cousin Pam said Carrie is a great person. So if everyone would look at a person’s personality instead of what they eat, that would be one less thing for people to argue about.

Well, I think that what she doesn’t realize is that the reason she gets booed in cattle farming areas of the country is because she is a staunch supporter of HSUS. The humane society of the United States is against animal agriculture and she is one of their biggest fund raisers. As a result of this alleigance she is alienating her fan base in cattle country. Now don’t get me wrong this is her right certainly, but don’t avidly raise money to help support ending our lifestyles and then act surprised about us reacting unfavorably.

Go Carrie!!! The cattle ranchers are undoubtedly killing Americans in massive numbers. Just do some research. From saturated fat in beef, to hormones and antibiotics pumped into them. Disease ridden animal. Animal flesh is not good for our bodies period. Especially with they being massed produced in this country. It is why America is FAT. If you want to look great like her take note of her plant based diet. This Is just for health reasons not to mention the insane impact this industry has on out environment. It’s responsible for more damage than all of the the transportation industry put together. This is our world were destroying. Even if u don’t care about the horrible lives these animals have less tan “lived” I’m sure you care about you and your loved ones health and taking care of our land.

Joe … the fact that cattle farming gives some people a living doesn’t make it a good thing. I used to be comfortably employed in the coal mining industry, then I woke up and saw what damage it does. Starting out on building a new lifestyle was a little scary for sure, but it was worth it 🙂

Funny that Carrie feels the need to announce to her audiences that she is a vegetarian. I never hear other performers proclaim that they love to eat meat.

Eating meat is a preference; vegetarianism is a statement. By announcing that you’re a vegetarian, you are advocating a way of life that you believe benefits many. There would be no such moral statement behind declaring yourself a meat-eater. All it would come down to would be preference. Taking away the “right versus wrong” debate just for clarification’s sake, its simply value system versus preference (and the hope would be to expand on it and explore how one could easily come to prefer vegetarianism).
Hope that clarifies a bit.

I’m a vegan living in a dairy and egg producing community, with a few close family members who are butchers and have worked in slaughterhouses. I know how she feels.
