Jason Mraz Resists Corn Dogs At Indiana State Fair

County and state fairs are the hub for vegetarian food, right?

Ha!

And Jimmy Dean makes soy sausages.

Unfortunately fairs are often filled with greased bathed, crusted delicacies of beef, pork and chicken, not to mention all the sugar that would give even a non diabetic problems.

Imagine how out of place raw vegan Jason Mraz felt while playing for the Indiana State Fair recently, where there are copious amounts of midwestern farm exhibits (live pigs, cows-which sometimes are placed near beef samples. How rude!) in addition to your standard meat fare.

When a reporter asked him about resisting all the “tempting” foods, Jason answered, “No problem. I think I missed the pig races as well.”

However, we shouldn’t stereotype fairs, as the ISF has plenty of corn on the cob (this is Indiana, remember. Corn is like, the official state vegetable) and last year’s fair had, you guessed it, fried broccoli, onions, and other wholesome veggies.

Have you attend a local fair that surprised you with the amounts of vegetarian or even vegan foods?

Note: The writer of this post has lived in Indiana and attended the state fair once. Hence, the sarcasm. No offense Hoosiers.

Olivia Wilde Should Live On Jason Mraz Avocado Farm

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, August 23rd, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

FOX TV TCA July 09 Party

Vegan actress Olivia Wilde has just admitted to some serious avocado loving!

“I also love avocados. I feel like I always have avocados at my house. For me, they’re nature’s gift.”

Olivia should pay a visit to vegan singer Jason Mraz’s avocado farm and maybe try his chocomole-chocolate and avocado-dessert recipe.

The House star admits she eats pretty much whatever she wants without worrying about putting on extra pounds.

Her ability to do this is probably related to the fact that vegan diets, full of lean plant based proteins like nuts, beans, and whole grain pasta and belly filling fruits and vegetables have waaaay less fat and calories than the meat and potatoes ones.

And let’s hear it for those avocados, which are full of monounsaturated “good for you” fats that help lower bad LDL cholesterol.

We think we hear some guacamole calling us from the fridge!

According to the USDA, the average American farmer is 55 years of age or older.

But that doesn’t mean there aren’t youngins out there.

And hot ones at that!

Jason Mraz is featured in Mother Nature Network’s “40 Farmers Under 40,” great profiles of young, rosy cheeked agrarians who might take the ipod filled with Greenday and Coldplay with them to the field to harvest crops.

The 32 year old raw vegan singer-songwriter has an avocado garden, which sits on five acres in San Diego, California.

Jason eats his share of 2-4 avocados a day and if you recall us telling you, created a dessert made with avocados and chocolate, the chocomole.

“I do sell my avocados,” Jason told CNN last year. “I mean, they don’t have a sticker on them that say that these are from the Mraz Farms, but I moved into an area that all of us are avocado farmers.”

Visit mnn.com to read who the other 39 farmers under 40 are, which include contributors to noted publications such as the Huffington Post and grist.org and an actor in a Peabody-award winning film.

Jason Mraz Shops Local, Eats Own Delicious Homemade Vegan Meals

Fuji Rock Festival Day 3

The “Curbside Prophet” Jason Mraz has been a vegan since April 1st. While some stars on tour may find it hard for restaurants and hotels to cater to them, Mraz prefers to make his own contraptions.

“Rather than rely on room service and overpriced restaurant versions of vegetarian cuisine, I shop at local grocers and eat my own delicious homemade meals.”

Like Russell Simmons, Mraz thinks yoga is where all the good looking chicks are as there are many “hot girls fresh from yoga” to be found in natural foods stores.

He and his friend Toca Rivera both started eating vegan and since then, Rivera, who has diabetes, claims his diabetic problems has disappeared.

But don’t tell Mraz that eating unprocessed, vegan food is considered “alternative.”

“ALTERNATIVES? How did we let nature’s supply take a back seat and become so hard to reach?”
