Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson provide the voices to animated turkeys in a new film that lets two birds travel back in time to remove themselves from the Thanksgiving menu.
Director Jimmy Hayward insists that the movie’s intent is not to promote a vegetarian agenda.
“My agenda was to make a heartfelt comedy, and the only message in it is all the holidays are about pressing pause in your life and getting together with the people that you love and appreciating them,” he said.
But it doesn’t hurt that one of the leading turkeys is animated by Harrelson, a very vocal and longtime vegan and environmentalist.
Harrelson, Owen, as well as Amy Poehler and George Takei recently attended a premiere of the film at L.A.’s Westwood Village.
After the screening, the stars joined with children for a carnival that featured games, rides and food.
Free Birds hits the theatres on November 1st.
