Quantcast Vegetarian StarLeona Lewis Talks Cruelty-Free Cosmetics in “Cosmopolitan”

Leona Lewis

Leona Lewis has an interview in the August 2013 issue of Cosmopolitan magazine.

Inside she discusses her passion for ending animal testing on cosmetics, as well as her cruelty-free brand she has launched with The Body Shop.

“They say you can judge a society on how it treats its animals, and I think that’s very true – it all filters down.”

The trickle down effect goes all the way to the bottom line of businesses–who are entirely dependent on the consumer’s choice and pocketbook.

“The EU ban will put pressure on the rest of the world: they won’t be able to sell their animal-tested products in Europe any longer, so it makes financial sense that they replace their animal tests with alternative methods if they want to trade in this lucrative market.”

Lewis’ own brand of perfume through The Body Shop uses not real, but a synthetic musk, and she is just as diligent about her makeup and other beauty products at home.

“I definitely am quite strict about it. My makeup and hair people know I don’t use any brushes that use real animal hair, and we stay away from products from parts of the world where they’re animal-tested and not humane at all. And I’ve found there are websites with good information on what products are cruelty-free.”
