Anthony Bourdain On Animal Testing Kardashians And More
Written by Vegetarian Star on May 14th, 2013 in Chefs, Food & Drink.
Anthony Bourdain chatted with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer before giving his final appearance on his North American “Guts and Glory” tour.
Over the years the chef who once said vegetarians and vegans were a “persistent irritant” to any chef worth a damn has proved to be an ally to those of us who at least want to see less processed food and big farm meat.
Hey, even his wife became a vegan for a few days.
During his interview, Bourdain made a few (albeit still sarcastic) comments dennouncing several practices that suggest he could even join Ottavia for a vegan meal or two.
On the excessive consumption of animal protein (and why a fictional goat herder along the Pakistan border may want to join Al-Qaeda):
”He turns on the old tube and watches Adam Richman [from “Man v. Food”], shoving more animal protein into his face in nine minutes than this guy’s family gets to eat in two years.”
On why vegetarian restaurants should start appealing to more budget-conscious consumers:
“Even with vegetarian options, more often than not, they’ll be happy to say, ‘Of course, no problem, I’m sure we can find something for you to eat, but it’s $35 a carrot for you.”
On who we should really be testing cosmetics on:
“I’m close to an animal activist, much closer to an animal activist than you might think …[For instance,] animal testing on cosmetics. Testing cosmetics on monkeys to see … How can we do that with all these Kardashians around?”
