Shannon Elizabeth is the 2012 spokesperson for Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt-A-Turkey event.
For a one-time donation of $30, animal lovers can adopt a turkey living on the sanctuary grounds. In return, they’ll receive an official adoption certificate, a color photo of their new family member and updates on his/her life.
Elizabeth was compelled to get involved with the adopt-a-turkey event after spending time with the animals and realizing how similar they were to common household pets like cats and dogs.
“The first time I met turkeys face-to-face, I couldn’t get over how they enjoyed my attention just as much as my dogs do!” she said. “Seeing firsthand how sweet and affectionate turkeys are, I could no longer separate them from how I thought about my dogs at home, who I always want to feel safe and protected.”
Adopt-a-turkey has been a regular feature of the sanctuary’s programs since 1986. Some of the turkeys available for adoption this year include Payton, Annette, Gable, Smith, Thyme and Victoria.
