Quantcast Vegetarian StarMario Batali Puts Cherries On His List Of Favorite Fruits

Mario Batali

To say that Mario Batali is a fan of cherries is perhaps an understatement.

Ask him how he likes to prepare the tart fruit and you’ll get more answers than a fruit salad.

“I’ll take some Michigan cherries and I’ll dress them with a little extra-virgin olive oil, some chopped jalapeƱos, a little cilantro, and some red wine vinegar. Suddenly, I’ll have something that almost behaves like a pickle relish. I’ll put it on my sandwiches. I’ll serve it with beans and rice. I’ll put it on top of my pizza. I’ll eat it like a salad just out of the refrigerator.”

Cherries on your sandwich, in your beans and rice and even pizza may sound a bit overboard, but who can help themselves when presented with the juicy fruit that may even help lower the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.

Consuming cherries may reduce weight gained, especially that in the abdominal region, which presents a greater risk factor for obesity related diseases than weight gained elsewhere.

Take advice from a celebrity chef who lost weight incorporating more plant-based meals in his diet and is smart enough to implement Meatless Mondays in his life and restaurants. Don’t just save cherries for your vegan ice cream. Throw them in variety of dishes like salads, homemade trail mixes, vegetable medleys and even…beans and rice.
