Secret Life of the American Teenager‘s Megan Park is supporting a bill proposed by Canadian Senator Mac Harb that would phase-out the seal hunt.
As a native Canadian, Park wanted to show her support for both the politician and her stance against the hunt and wrote a letter urging the passage of S-210.
“Since I play a teenager on TV, I know that young people everywhere are becoming increasingly aware of issues that affect animals, and like me, they don’t want to see baby seals bludgeoned and skinned alive to make fur coats.”
“As a Canadian I’m obviously very disappointed and ashamed that it still goes on,” Park said on the seal pelt trade in a video for People for the Ethical Treatment on animals.
Park has worked with animal rights group in the past, doing an anti-fur ad with a rescue dog that read, “If you wouldn’t wear your dog, please don’t wear any fur or fur trim.”
Park currently owns several rescue cats and grew up in a family that regularly volunteered for animal shelters.
A vegetarian, Park said she was inspired from reading Alicia Silverstone‘s vegan diet book, The Kind Life.
