Lauren Bush Recalls Awkward Vegetarian School Lunches

Lauren Bush celebrated the 5th anniversary of the company she co-founded, FEED Projects, at the Clarins Million Meals Concert in New York’s Lincoln Center. Guests included performers like John Legend and a special appearance by former president of the United States Bill Clinton.
The event raised money for food provided to school children in need.
Lunches aren’t the most positive items on the education menu in the U.S., especially considering how hard it may be in some districts to get a vegetarian/vegan meal and/or non-dairy beverage like soy or almond.
Growing up as a vegetarian adolescent, Bush never had to worry about the mystery meat and sour milk at her school’s cafeteria.
“I’m a vegetarian so I always brought my own little lunch. I’m sure I was a little awkward,” she said, according to New York Magazine.
Times have changed. The awkward kid with beans and rice in the 80s is probably now the star of the lunch room, with everyone begging to trade their lame baloney sandwich for some Tofurkey Jerky.
