Michelle Obama has launched an online recipe contest for children, aged 8-12, to develop healthy meal ideas and earn a chance to sit as a guest of honor at a White House State Dinner.
Choosemyplate.gov is recommended as a resource for parents and children looking to create these healthier meal ideas and the site recognizes a vegetarian diet as one that “can meet all the recommendations for nutrients,” the key being to “consume a variety of foods and the right amount of foods to meet your calorie needs.”
The site has several pages of resources for vegetarian cooking, including Tips for Vegetarians, the printable PDF form of the same document, and the Vegetarian Nutrition Resource List filled with everything from books to websites about the vegetarian lifestyle.
Vegetarian parents and kids interested in scoring a spot at a future White House State dinner have until 11:59 PM June 17 to enter to win. Full contest rules and information can be found here.
