Quantcast Vegetarian StarMeatless Monday Recipe–Bobby Deen’s Spicy Sweet Potato Chips

Bobby Deen and Paula Deen

Bobby Deen has his own cooking show where he’s out to create a tasty southern dish like mom Paula Deen minus a few sticks of butter.

Not My Mama’s Meals airs on Sundays at 12:30 PM on the Cooking Channel and features Bobby modifying mom’s meals by reducing calorie and fat content.

Bobby obviously has a concern for the nation’s health and he spoke with The Kansas City Star on his views on childhood obesity.

“Childhood obesity in America is a problem, and I think we’ve just started to do something about it. I think we get creative with the cooking . . . And we’ve got a very sedentary society, where people kind of sit on the sofa and play the Xbox or the PS3 and you’re not really moving around . . . (or) playing basketball or playing baseball, doing these things, being active, understanding what a portion size really is, because we’re overfed everywhere we go. You go to a restaurant and they give you this huge plate of food, just like this, and (we) think that’s how much we’re supposed to eat. So I think we need to inform ourselves on how much we should eat, and I think we need to have exercise in our lives.”

Besides spending time outdoors, adults can help children stay slimmer by giving them healthier versions of traditional junk food.

Bobby’s Spicy Sweet Potato Chips are brushed with heart-healthy olive oil before being baked and not fried. These chips are sprinkled with salt, black and cayenne pepper, but feel free to explore with other spices like garlic, onion or chili pepper.

More of Bobby’s healthier comfort food recipes can be found at Not My Mama’s Meals.
