Quantcast Vegetarian StarMeatless Monday Recipe–Trisha Yearwood Chickenless Pot Pie

Trisha Yearwood

Country music favorite Trisha Yearwood‘s new six episode Food Network series debuted this weekend.

Southern food is traditionally known for the Paula Deen food groups of butter, cream, meat and butter, but Yearwood started experimenting in the kitchen with vegan dishes when her mother became ill and today she continues to enjoy plant-based meals with her family. She’s promised to use Trisha’s Southern Kitchen to show fans how easy it can be to make home-cooked comfort meals without animal ingredients, like this recipe for her Chickenless Pot Pie.

“We figured out how to make chicken pot pie without any dairy or any meat in it, and it’s fantastic,” Yearwood told Zap2it. “When I make it now, I don’t tell people that it’s vegan, and they love it. It just tastes good.”

Chickenless Pot Pie, which is featured on the Food Network website, is dubbed as the “healthy update to a chicken pot pie” and described as being “just as delicious without the meat!.”

While it’s easy to make a meat-free dish (leave the cluck in the container), it takes a little more vegucation and research to realize what truly makes a vegetarian or vegan dish. Yearwood has passed vegan cooking with honors, as she ensures every ingredient, including those tricky sources of animal products, like broth, is vegan.
