Brendan Brazier Gives Best Vegan Pre And Post Workout Snacks

Ever wonder what the best snacks to eat before and after a long run are if you’re a vegan who’s interested in maximum performance? Look no further than to triathlete Brendan Brazier. Brazier is the author of Thrive Diet and soon to be released Whole Foods to Thrive: Nutrient-Dense, Plant-Based Recipes for Peak Health.
He also created VEGA, a line of whole food, vegan nutritional shakes, bars and other supplements which happen to fall under his pre-workout food suggestions.
“Pre-run, it’s about getting the body the reserve energy it’ll need to sustain the run,” Brazier said. “Half a banana and a few dates, almond milk mixed together with a scoop of the Vega Sport Optimizer or some pseudo-grains, like quinoa, mixed with fruits and almonds are a good energy boost.”
“Post-run, I would do a smoothie with coconut water, hemp protein, maca, chlorella and blueberries. Available at many health food stores in powdered form, maca helps to nourish and rejuvenate the adrenal glands. After training or any other type of stress, the adrenals become fatigued. If the stress becomes chronic and not enough time is allowed for recovery, common symptoms of stress become apparent.”
