Take Time To Realize…puppies around the country really need your help.
Puppy Mill Action Week is wrapping up and singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat has helped the Humane Society of the United States educate people on how important it is to not support mills through a series of recorded PSAs featuring her music.
Pet lovers were urged to take a different action every day during Action Week and for Friday, Caillat and the HSUS would like you to urge Congress to pass the PUPS Act.
Senators Durbin (D-Ill.) and Vitter (R-La.) introduced The Puppy Uniform Protection Statute (PUPS), S. 707, a companion to H.R. 835 that will allow the U.S. to have oversight over puppy mills.
PUPS is designed to close a loophole in the Animal Welfare Act that allows large-scale commerical breeders who sell dogs over the Internet or directly to the public to escape licensing and regulation.
“Puppy Mills are commercial breeding facilities where dogs often suffer under harsh conditions, never knowing even simple comforts, much less love,” Caillat says in the video.
You can help puppies that are often housed in uncomfortable conditions, such as cages with wires for floors, by contacting your legislators and sending them a message to let them know you support better conditions for dogs.
