Colbie Caillat has collaborated with the Humane Society of the United States to educate her fans about the uncomfortable conditions dogs endure in puppy mills, encouraging her fans to rescue and adopt instead of buy.
Caillat has recorded radio announcements that will be played this week, which happens to be Puppy Mill Action Week. The timing of the annoucements was meant to correspond during Mother’s Day weekend to remind people female dogs in mills have some of the worst Mother’s Days in the world because they are forced to reside in cramped cages, suffering physical and pyschological abuse.
Caillat is inviting everyone to sign a pledge located on the Humane Society’s page saying they will fight puppy mills by adopting and refusing to buy any pet from a store.
“Everyone who signs the pledge and shares it with others will be doing their part to stop puppy mills and save animals from suffering,” Caillat said. “I have such great fans, and I know they’ll join me in raising awareness about this important issue.”
Practicing what she preaches, Caillat is the proud owner of a rescued Golden Retriever named Plum. Plum was found tied up and starving on the streets of Taiwain.
“When I’m on the road,” Caillat said, “I just want to get home and snuggle with Plum.”
