Quantcast Vegetarian StarJamie Oliver Talks Importance Of Organic And Local With Maria Rodale

Unlike the Los Angeles Unified School District, not everyone is so secretive about their kitchen when it comes to letting Jamie Oliver snoop around.

Maria Rodale, CEO and Chairman of American publisher Rodale Inc., had a discussion with Oliver about the importance of organic and local food and children’s nutrition for her column, “Maria’s Farm Country Kitchen.”

“Living organic is a tricky thing,” Oliver said. “I want people to buy the best they can get access to. Sometimes that’s local, sometimes organic. I want to make sure all people have access to fresh food—and that your government does a better job in making the best food available to everyone in your great country.”

Oliver brought up some points about nutrition in schools, something he’s fighting to improve during the second season of his ABC television series, Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution.

During the most recent episode of Food Revolution, Oliver actually made it into the kitchen of one high school in the district that is funded by but not completely controlled by the LAUSD that has banned him elsewhere.

But these gains are temporary, as someone eventually rats him out, the school board finds out and he’s promptly banned from the West Adams Preparatory School cafeteria.
