Mike Binder Puts Veggie Dogs On Coney Dog Restaurant Menu In Hollywood

Mike Binder has film stunts like The Mind of the Married Man and The Sex Monster as an actor, writer, director and producer to his credit. Now, he’d like to add restaurant entrepreneur to that CV.
The Detroit native is opening a 24-hour hot dog and spicy chili restaurant on Hollywood’s Sunset Blvd next month, Coney Dog, inspired by the taste of Detroit’s Lafayette Coney Island.
Binder will be answering to investors like comedians Tim Allen and Adam Sandler and Spider Man director Sam Raimi, but he’s already had to answer to two extremely influential customers–his wife and daughter.
Binder said one of the reasons he put vegetarian dogs and vegetarian chili dogs on the menu was “because this is Los Angeles.”
“My wife and daughter are vegetarians so I had to do it,” Binder, who grew up in the Detroit suburb of Birmingham, added.
Besides dogs and chilis, the 65-seat restaurant will serve staples from Detroit-based companies like Better Made chips, Faygo drinks and Stroh’s beer and have waitresses actually bring your food to you at the table.

Went to Seaholm in Birmingham just before Mike Binder. (He went to school with my younger sisters.) I was REALLY excited to hear about this new restaurant. A Detroit restaurant in L.A. Wow!!! – I don’t remember any soy bean dogs in Detroit. So Mike Binder isn’t really into having a Detroit restaurant here. He’s into having an L.A. restaurant he simply calls a Detroit restaurant. It’s a slippery slope, Mike. You just gave me one reason not to get excited about this place. I really don’t give a d… what your family eats at home. You’ve taken a formula that works in Detroit and you’ve changed it. I’m disappointed. This isn’t about L.A. vs Detroit. This is about REAL coney dogs vs. FAKE WEINERS!
