Quantcast Vegetarian StarForest Whitaker Says So Long To Soy For Weight Loss

Forest Whitaker

If you follow Forest Whitaker, you know he had to shed that 70 pounds of extra baggage he put on for The Last King of Scotland, a film which earned him an Oscar in 2007.

Forest has been following a vegetarian diet for years, but he found cutting back on many processed foods, especially soy, helped the cause.

In other words: Forest cut the vegan junk food!

“I cut all the soy out and it changed everything… I just wanted to take care of myself,” Forest said.

Faux meats and cheeses are no doubt delicious, but YES, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. But is soy itself to blame for the vegan Santa Clause look? Not necessarily, says Dr. Andrew Weil, healthy living expert.

In some people, soy can interfere with thyroid dysfunction. But it’s usually because the person already has thyroid problems.

Here’s what Dr. Weil said:

“In some people, a high intake of soy can block thyroid function, but this usually occurs only if you already have a thyroid disorder. If you’re concerned about your thyroid, ask your physician to do thyroid function tests. If results show that your thyroid is working normally, there’s no need to worry about your soy intake. Even people who have low thyroid function can eat soy providing that their thyroid medication is adjusted to take into account their soy intake.”

After 25 years of being a vegetarian, Forest’s diet has, like, sooooy rubbed off on those that are most impressionable. His son is a vegan.
