Quantcast Vegetarian StarJane Velez-Mitchell Wears Mismatched Shoes But No One Is Hurt (Video)

As an anchor of the popular HLN show Issues, Jane Velez-Mitchell is required to maintain style.

Good thing no one ever sees her feet while she’s on television.

Jane’s interview with Media Bistro reveals she once left the house with two different kinds of shoes on.

But at least they were animal-free.

“No matter how many stupid things I say here, I know I’m a winner because at the end of the day I haven’t killed anything to get through this day,” Jane says.

Not only do vegan shoes mean no animal skins, they can also be more eco-friendly.

The processes used to finish leather involve chemicals like chrome and formaldehyde that have been shown to pollute waters and linked to an increase of some diseases in certain areas where facilities that produce leather are located.

One vegan shoe company, Beyond Skin, has taken things up on the eco-notch and designed a faux-leather shoe made from recycled plastic bottles. Beyond Skin also doesn’t use polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in its collections, a synthetic chemical that has brought criticism to some vegan clothing because of its potential impact on human health and lack of biodegradability.

Other companies offering vegan shoes include, Moo Shoes, Alternative Outfitters, Tom’sVegan Chic and Zappos.
