Quantcast Vegetarian StarSteve-O No Jackass About Breast Cancer And Diet In “Vanity Fair”

Like many men, Steve-O has an interest in breasts.

He recently told Vanity Fair how he really feels about those pink ribbons going around during the month of October for Breast Cancer Awareness.

“Let me tell you how I feel about these pink ribbons. I was watching the N.F.L. last week, and all the players were wearing pink. I don’t think they did anything to educate people about cancer prevention. I don’t think a pink ribbon does anything. What people need to know is that it’s the atrocious diet of Americans that’s responsible for all your cancer, all your heart disease, all your diabetes.”

The interviewer then used the opportunity to joke about the risk of cancer from putting fireworks in your rectum (typical of Glover’s stunts). Probably not as bad as Steve’s former 18-year old smoking habit (thank goodness the vegan has quit).

Earlier, we discussed an article by Dr. Neal Barnard of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine on how soy, a common staple in a vegetarian diet, might prevent a woman from developing breast cancer. This is especially true if the consumption of soy is done in adolescence when the breast tissue is forming. And because a compound in soy, phytoestrogen, is similar to estrogen, it can prevent the body’s hormone from inducing effects that may lead to cancer.

Breast cancer rates are lower in countries where diets are mostly plant-based and when people from healthier eating countries come to the U.S. and adopt a Western meat-based diet, they get more than they bargained for with immigration, as the rates of cancer increase.

Although researchers haven’t found a good explanation for it yet, vegetarians also have higher levels of Natural Killer cells, which hunt down and kill cancer cells.

I have to agree. What makes me sick is the Breast Cancer Awareness KFC Buckets.

(Also, as an animal activist, I have to say that most of the money that goes to breast cancer research involves animal testing. Which is why, as horrible as it sounds, I do not buy ‘pink’ products in October. Sorry.)
