PAWS works to protect both people and pets by keeping pets with the family during escape from an abusive situation.
During tragedies such as natural disasters, financial or social crisis, pets are often the last considered and many are left behind. Thank goodness for an organization like PAWS which recognizes the need to protect the safety and well-being of all life.
Abdul has worked for PAWS by serving as a spokesperson, creating a PSA, creating awareness among domestic violence shelters and raising money for the organization.
“It is our great pleasure to confer on Paula Abdul this award of recognition dedicated to the outreach she has performed, not only for PAWS, but for the entire American Humane Association,” said Dale Austin, chief operating officer. “Thanks in part to her, the lives of many women, children and pets in dire need have benefited and improved.”
One way PAWS keeps animals with their families is by working with domestic violence shelters to convince them to accommodate pets. If you or someone you know is in need of a family violence shelter to accommodate you and your four-legged family member, visit the American Humane Association for a list of shelters that will do so.
