Quantcast Vegetarian StarJennie Garth Supports Improving Nutrition For America’s School Children Act

Jennie Garth has written a letter to Congress in support of H.R 5504, Improving Nutrition for America’s School Children act.

Garth specifically addressed Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the house, regarding the bill.

“I’m writing to you because I am passionate about promoting healthy lifestyles. This past year, I have been working to educate and motivate children to make healthy choices,” says Garth. “But nutrition education isn’t enough. We also have to make sure that every child in American can find healthy foods in their school cafeteria.”

“Right now, unfortunately, the food served in many schools is too high in saturated fat and cholesterol. Cafeterias are serving pepperoni pizza and beef burritos and other high-fat foods, and healthy choices aren’t always easy to find. That’s especially troubling because more than a third of America’s children are overweight or obese. Obesity can lead to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and some forms of cancer.”

Improving Nutrition for America’s School Children is meant to revise previous legislation for school meals, revising several areas of nutrition that young people may depend on including school lunch and breakfast programs, the summer food service program, the child and adult care food program (CACFP), and the special supplemental nutrition program for women, infants, and children (WIC program).
