Quantcast Vegetarian StarBetty White Signing The Pet Set Ornaments Before Animal Fundraiser

Betty White will make an appearance at Binn’s in Williamsburgh, Virginia on October 16th, 2010 to sign hand crafted ornaments called The Pet Set. The event will occur right before a fundraiser to raise money for the Morris Animal Foundation in the Virginia Room of the Williamsburg Lodge at 7 PM.

White has supported the foundation for years, which funds research to treat and cure conditions in household pets, zoo animals and other wildlife.

Ironically, one of the recent studies Morris Animal Foundation has completed on dog bite education received by physicians and veterinarians, was funded by Proctor and Gamble, a company that still conducts animal testing for its line of cosmetic and household products like Olay, Crest and Pampers.

Many animal rights organizations still give P & G the heat for its testing, but according to its website, the practice is something the company is trying to eliminate.

“P&G firmly believes that ending animal research is beneficial for consumers, animal welfare, and industry. Wherever possible, we use computer models, synthetic materials, clinical studies, published scientific studies, and comments from consumers about products they use.”

The P & G site also states that 99% of its tests are done with these alternatives to animal testing.

Funding studies that will eventually lead to a curriculum to prevent dog bites and possible euthanasia of dogs who’ve bitten people is one step in the right direction for a company that will hopefully phase out all animal testing for its brands.
