“Iron Chef America”–Dirt Candy’s Amanda Cohen In Veg Competition

Amanda Cohen, founder and chef of New York city vegetarian restaurant Dirt Candy, will be competing on Iron Chef America on August 29th, 2010 at 10 PM ET/PT against Chef Masaharu Morimoto in a vegetarian on vegetarian challenge.
To Cohen’s surprise, Moriomoto stuck to an entirely vegetarian menu during the challenge in which Cohen worked so hard her pants fell down.
“I can only hope that this moment didn’t make it onto national TV,” Cohen told Lunch Box Bunch about the embarrassing moment during an exclusive interview.
Despite Iron Chef’s history of featuring secret ingredients from animal parts that were secret to you before it announced them, Cohen sees the episode as one of several signs the Food Network is slowly embracing vegetarianism.
“You’re seeing more and more vegan and vegetarians on Food Network, like Chloe Coscarelli who won Cupcake Wars with a vegan cupcake. Slowly there’s a realization that there’s more to vegetarian food and vegetables than previously assumed, and that’s what I wanted to do when I went on Iron Chef. I wanted to show what vegetarian food could do and I wanted to shake up some assumptions, and hopefully that’s what I did.”
Pants or no pants, we’ll be cheering on her on.
Cohen can be seen in competition in repeating episodes on Aug 30, 2010 at 1:00 AM ET/PT and Sep 02, 2010 at9:00 PM ET/PT.
