Quantcast Vegetarian StarDita Von Teese Misses Vegetarian Food In Paris, France

Dita Von Teese has taken her burlesque striptease show to Paris, France, where she tantalizes with her sensual moves at the Crazy Horse. The American dancer divides her time between Paris and the United States, cramming in marathon French lessons and shopping at the markets in between routines, and admits she misses Los Angeles at times, partially because of the selection of vegetarian restaurants there.

“I miss driving my cars [Dita has a 1939 Chrysler New Yorker, a 1965 Jaguar S-type and a BMW Z4] and some of my favourite vegetarian restaurants, although I am not actually a vegetarian,” Von Teese told Connexion France.

France is sometimes known for being a paradise for meat eaters, but according to food blogger David Lebovitz, there’s no shortage in vegetarian fare in the City of Lights.

A good first stop for veggies staying in Paris long term would be the natural food stores of Biocoop or Naturalia, which sell plenty of vegetarian options like soy yogurt, tofu and other organic staples.

Lebovitz has devoted an entire post to Vegetarian Restaurants in Paris, which include LAesque places like juice bars featuring tofu sandwiches and veggie wraps, international falafel chains, Chinese vegan and macrobiotic.

Although vegetarians in the U.S. are quick to get offended when offered items like fish, Lebovitz says you have to remember not all countries consider vegetarian to mean the same thing, and it’s best to specify with the wait staff.

“Be aware that in France, if you tell them you’re vegetarian or that you don’t eat meat, they might just assume you don’t eat beef. Some don’t consider chicken or pork ‘meat’ since they’re not sold in butcher shops, but at charcuteries and volailleurs. It’s a cultural difference so just make your preference known when ordering.”
