eBay Visitors Pick Sea Shepherd, Humane Society As Top Charities

Paul Watson, Whale Wars and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society get mocked (South Park Whale Whores), criticized and talked about in the media, but apparently, all this attention is great for publicity–and winning over the hearts of ebay fans.
The group was chosen as the #1 favorite charity among ebay visitors, receiving 7,025 votes. Sea Shepherd will receive a grand prize of $15,000 that will be used for their efforts to rescue wildlife in the Gulf Coast.
Another big animal charity to receive top votes?
The Humane Society of the United States received 5,736 votes and the group will also receive money–$10,000–to go towards their work for animal welfare reform.
eBay has been in the news regarding animal rights before, particularly on its policies involving the sale of animal products. A ban on dog and cat fur was initiated after a cat fur coat was posted for sale on the French site, which elicited conversation from activists.
The sales of ivory products were also stopped after the company was informed about endangered elephants being targeted for their tusks and teeth.
