The Chicago Diner was recently featured on TLC’s show Best Food Ever, hosted by John Goodman.
The episode, titled, “Darn Good Diners,” highlighted the vegetarian diner’s Radical Reuben sandwich, and how it is prepared from start to finish.
The Radical Reuben is a vegan sandwich made from seitan to imitate roast beef, and topped with grilled peppers, onions, sauerkraut, soy or dairy cheese and homemade vegan dressing between two slices of toasted marbled rye bread.
The Radical Reuben has been voted best in the Midwest in a Vegetarian Times reader’s poll.
The Chicago Diner has been serving up vegetarian and mostly vegan diner food like pasta, sandwiches and pizza since 1983, and is owned and operated by two business partners, Jo Kaucher and Mickey Hornick, who happen to be romantic partners as well.
