Ginnifer Goodwin Just Not That Into Converting People To Vegan
Written by Vegetarian Star on May 15th, 2009 in Actresses.
Although Ginnifer Goodwin used to be a cheeseburger lover, she doesn’t crave those anymore. But that doesn’t mean cares if someone else does. From the editor’s blog at W magazine:
“So many people say to me, ‘I tried, and it was too hard,’ or ‘I had to cheat,’ and I always think, ‘Then it’s not right for you,'” Ginnifer said.
“You shouldn’t have to try. For me there’s no “try” involved. There’s nothing I want less than a piece of cheese or a burger. I have nightmares I’m being force-fed these things. I have no interest in converting anyone. It’s purely how I want to live my life. I don’t judge anyone.”
Ginnifer took some flack for posing in leather and silk for the W magazine shoot, which her cousin and Humane Society of the United States coordinator, JP Goodwin, explained to readers in the comments section on a post at supervegan.com.
What do you guys think of judgemental vegans? Should people make more effort to educate and change the diet of others. Or will this only turn people away?

I’m not really into converting either. People around me definitely know I’m vegan. And I get ragged for being picky like not having my veggie burgers grilled next to meat at cookouts. But I’ve never really “preached” to anyone.
I think that some people are good at it and some aren’t. That may be Ginnifer’s issue.

I don’t agree with Ginnifer. Where would the world be if everyone quit when things got hard? I didn’t accept my SAT score in high school by saying a higher score just “wasn’t for me.” I got Prep books, studied, and raised my score a couple of hundred points.
If someone tries to be veg and finds it hard, they should seek advice on whatever the issue is-more recipes, suggestions for fake meat and dairy, etc. Even I had to try several brands of veggie burgers and finally made my own cheese before I was satisfied.
And we all know it’s better for our health, the animals, and the planet if vegans “cheat” or people even eat vegetarian sometimes rather than never.
It took me 10 years to switch from vegetarian to vegan, but I’m never going back again. I kept trying and I finally did it!

I wouldn’t put my laid-backness quite as strongly (weakly?) as Ginnifer, but being all judgy-judge at people just makes you look like a dick. I would like for more people to be vegetarian because that means fewer animals have to suffer, but it turns people off if you seem like you’re just using veganism as a way to feel superior. That’s bad both on the making-people-want-to-go-veg front as well as the having-friends front.

I think it’s impossible to convert people. They don’t listen. I’ve tried to educate people in subtle polite ways but it won’t work. So many people are way too selfish ,close minded, and love to follow others. If someone is going to be vegan it’s going be be because they finally wake and have some kind of apifiney.
