Davey Havok

Davey Havok, frontman for AFI, has written his first novel.

Pop Kids tells the story of Score Massi, an 18-year old living in a small California town and fixated with many things in life, including pop culture, moving to a big city, and “vegan banana bread,” according to the summary on its back cover.

Such a life is often portrayed in the media as one that includes dabbling in drugs and alcohol on your way up or once you reach the top.

That isn’t the case for Massi and it never was for Havok, as he explained how he got involved with the vegan, straight-edge movement.

Andy Hurley’s Vegan, Straight-Edgeness Keeps Tabloids Away

The media likes to rip on celebrities, and with the band Fall Out Boy, it seems Pete Wentz is the favorite whipping boy. But what if it were drummer Andy Hurley? What would the tabloids have to say about him? Nothing much, according to Hurley. In an interview with College Times:

“I’m vegan straight-edge, so I’m never going to be stumbling out of a bar drunk. Maybe I’ll trip and fall once, and somebody will get a funny picture of it. When I’m home – I live in Milwaukee – and no one cares in the first place, but I pretty much just go to movies and go eat and play Call of Duty with my friends.”

No, there’s not really much you can write about if you want to trash Andy. But rest assured, if we hear of anything, we’ll tell you. If we ever catch him ingesting butter…
