John Bartlett, named Designer of the Year by The American Apparel and Footwear Association, has announced he’s gone vegan, and will no longer use leather in his collections.
Although he has been known in the fashion community for his use of leather, starting in September, those pieces will be discontinued and he will look for non-leather alternatives to use in his designs.
On his blog, Barlett, explained the decision came after reading Alicia Silverstone‘s vegan diet and lifestyle book, “The Kind Diet.”
“I had recently read Alicia Silverstone’s great book “The Kind Diet” and started to come to terms with the impact of meat eating on myself, on the animals who are being “factory farmed” and on the environment.”
