Paul Wesley Shares His Animal Diaries With Humane Society
Written by Vegetarian Star on May 6th, 2014 in Actors, Animal Issues.
When he’s not playing Stefan Salvadore on the CW series The Vampire Diaries, Paul Wesley spends his time taking a bite out of inhumane animal treatment.
Wesley is featured in the May/June 2014 issue of the Humane Society’s All Animals magazine, where he shares some of his earliest memories that led him to consider the impact of many practices that use animals like factory farming.
Growing up in Poland, Wesley started off living in a community where growing and buying food was a local process, not one that involved shipping products miles away or consuming food from animals housed in cramped conditions seen on large farms.
“When I was younger, my grandparents and I did not go to grocery stores. If we wanted milk, we went to a farm. For honey, we went to the beekeeper. I think corporations have become obsessed with profit and in doing so have lost any and all ethics.”
Growing fond of family pets and watching documentaries like Food Inc. all helped seal the deal to make Wesley active in campaigns like ending gestation crates for pigs and promoting fur-free fashion.
