Quantcast Vegetarian StarTaco Bell Offers Vegetarian Options In India And Around The World

Taco Bell

Taco Bell may have angered a few of its vegetarian fans when it created a Superbowl ad that made fun of eating veggies on game day, but if you consider the fast food establishment during any other time of the year, it’s a pretty good place to score an inexpensive plant-based dish.

David Novak, chairman and CEO, Yum Brands Inc. has an interview with Live Mint where he declares that a whopping 70% of its menu in India is vegetarian.

North American menus aren’t bad for veggies either and almost all of those vegetarian items can also be made vegan if you take off the cheese, sour cream and other miscellaneous milk-based sauces.

Novak discusses the expansion of the restaurants into India and how the menu fits with the country’s youthful population that likes to eat plant-based.

“Fifty-five per cent of the population here is under 30 or 35 years. It is a very youthful audience when you look at it, and Taco Bell really represents the new fast food. We have got localized products and 70% of the current mix of Taco Bell is vegetarian.”

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals has a small list of Taco Bell items that are vegetarian and can be made vegan. But with the restaurant’s ever-changing options, it’s always best to check out its website for a full list of ingredients in every product, especially its new ones.
