The Chew celebrated vegetarian cooking on Monday, and Mario, Daphne, Carla, Clinton and Michael sat around the table to discuss the benefits of going meatless–even part-time–in addition to sharing some delicious recipes.
Clinton highlighted some of the health benefits of going veg.
Going meatless just once a week, for example, can reduce your risk for heart disease by 19% and reduce your risk of Type II diabetes by 21%.
Daphne emphasized that meatless is not just about vegetarian meals, but “vegetable dominant” meals, which also help you get other nutrient in like fiber. Vegetable dominant meals are helpful for those that don’t want to give up meat completely, even for one meal.
Mario shared his experience of being vilified by the National Meat Council, when it contacted him and accused him of being a part of the “submissive fringe” after he took an interest in promoting vegetarian cooking.
When a famous chef partakes in Meatless Mondays, he can be labeled a rebel.
Watch the clip for the entire discussion and head to The Chew for great meatless recipe ideas.
