Alec Baldwin “Here’s The Thing” Podcast Lets PETA VP Talk Vegan Sweets
Written by Vegetarian Star on August 22nd, 2013 in Actors, Food & Drink.
Alec Baldwin is the host of a podcast series from WNYC called Here’s the Thing.
He regularly interviews entertainers, artists, policy makers and other movers and shakers in the industry, so an chat with Dan Mathews, vice-president for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, seems perfect for the station’s format.
The two discuss all of the standard issues PETA aims to cover, such as fur and animal testing, but when it comes down to getting the audience really interested, let’s face it–you have to talk about vegan desserts.
Mathews does get an occasional sweet tooth and can tell you exactly where to satisfy it.
From the transcript:
Alec Baldwin: What’s your go-to vegan dessert?
Dan Mathews: I really like sorbet. You can find it anywhere. It’s usually good. I know it sounds really –
Alec Baldwin: It’s that simple.
Dan Mathews: I know it sounds really faggy, but that’s who – what can I say?
Alec Baldwin: It’s that simple?
Dan Mathews: It’s exactly.
Alec Baldwin: No Tofutti Cuties?
Dan Mathews: I like that stuff, I mean, when you find it. I really like ethnic foods. I really like spicy things. I don’t have a big sweet tooth. But you can find a Goldenberg’s Peanut Chew in any drug store. That’s vegan. We have on our website even stuff that you can find at 711 or Target that’s vegan.
Just as you don’t need to go to a vegan candy store to get vegan sweets, Mathews emphasizes that you can also eat with mixed company at non-veggie restaurants.
