NYC Mayor Daughter Georgina Bloomberg On Politics Of Animals In City
Written by Vegetarian Star on July 16th, 2013 in Animal Issues.
NYC’s mayor Bloomberg has a daughter who, although hasn’t expressed an interest in following her father’s footsteps in office, definitely has some political views on animal welfare.
Georgina Bloomberg wrote an article that appeared in the Wall Street Journal which discussed the city’s problems with animal care.
“Government doesn’t care about animals,” she said, adding New York hasn’t done enough to attract potential pet owners to its shelters and made them places where “people want to go to adopt animals.”
She used the opportunity to express her views about the city’s longstanding traditional of horse-drawn carriage rides.
“Obviously, for me, my heart is always with the horses and I always want them to be kept in the best condition possible, which I don’t believe they are. Maybe the time has come for them to go.”
She acknowledges that taking horses off the streets may jeopardizes the livelihoods of those in the industry, but stands her ground that animal welfare is a priority.
“But at the same time,” she said, “If it’s just about the horses, then, no.”
