Patrick Dempsey For Neighborhood Coffee And Backyard Eggs

Patrick Dempsey is into keeping things small and local.
He recently purchased Tully’s, a rival to Starbucks Coffee shops, a decision that reflects his belief that the neighborhood coffee shop is fundamental in everyone’s lives (or at least everyone who drinks coffee).
At home, he and his family practice this same local concept by raising their own chickens and gardening.
“We grow vegetables and raise chickens for fresh eggs,” the Grey’s Anatomy actor told Bon Appetit. “Seed-to-skillet is a great concept, especially if you have kids. I like to make beet salad with spinach and mustard vinaigrette, or kale chips–baked on the grill or in the wood-fired pizza oven.”
If you’re the vegetarian or the vegan who occasionally eats eggs, those hatched in your backyard may be the most ethical. It can be hard to determine if hens are being treated well, as even packages with humane labels can have differing definitions.
And watch out beverage manufacturers. The Demsey children may start an empire from a lemonade stand. They’re already making the cold drink from the family lemon tree.
