Dr. Neal Barnard appeared as a guest on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to discuss his latest book Power Foods, dispense advice for better health, and offer a few vegan recipes.

Dr. Barnard is the president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, which advocates a plant-based diet for human health and pushes medical research without the use of animals when possible.

Dr. Barnard gave advice for getting better sleep and improving your memory.

His prescription food of the day was smoothies!

He shared his recipes for breakfast smoothie as well as smoothie parfait, two drinks to start your day with vitamin-rich fruit and non-dairy sources of protein and calcium, such as soy or almond milk.
