Written by Vegetarian Star on May 20th, 2013 in Actresses, Food & Drink.
Portia de Rossi is a spokesperson for both the vegan lifestyle and eating disorder recovery.
Her book, Unbearable Lightness, briefly touches on how following a plant-based diet helped her overcome her obsessions with strict eating, as it taught her to appreciate how what she ate helped other–the animals–versus affected her own image.
During an interview with the Pittsburgh-Gazette, the subject of gaining weight on a vegan diet came up.
Portia has always advocated how such a diet can actually help you lose weight and stay slim, so she emphasized that it’s simply of matter of doing it right.
You’ve been a vegan since 2008 — congratulations! I tried twice and just gained weight.
[Laughing] Ah that is actually the first time I have heard that. Most people lose a lot of weight when they become vegan. Here’s the thing: You do have to do it right. You have to know what to eat, but it’s actually a lot easier than you think, especially now. You should try it again because there is so many great products out there that can help you transition into a plant-based diet. I really love animals and I don’t want to be a part of harming them in any way.
