Michael Pollan “Food Rules” Of Processed Foods
Written by Vegetarian Star on May 8th, 2013 in Authors, Food & Drink.
Michael Pollan has an interview with the Seattle Times where he discusses some of his “Food Rules” as well as his latest book, Cooked.
Food Rules contained wisdom for how to return to the kitchen to eat versus filling our bodies with processed foods.
But cooking does not always mean pulling the plants straight from the ground, as Pollan clarifies during the interview.
Cooking can be healthy from pre-made foods, depending on the content going into those foods.
Pollan said:
“And, I don’t define scratch as, ‘You’re making tomato sauce, you have to start with tomatoes.’ I think there’s a first order of processed food that is great and a boon to mankind. I’m talking about canned tomatoes, I’m talking about canned chickpeas, frozen spinach. I rely on all those ingredients. What I’m focusing my negative comments on are hyper-processed foods, stuff with a lot of ingredients. And the difference between a can of tomatoes and a jar of tomato sauce is dramatic if you read the ingredients.”
So don’t waste time fretting over fresh, frozen and canned, especially if they’re not even in season.
