Jillian Michaels visited Capitol Hill to speak up for horses and humans.
The Biggest Loser coach is currently in the middle of her “Maximize Your Life” tour, and she stopped by D.C. to gain the support of senators for a bill that will prohibit the slaughter of horses and the resulting meat from entering the food supply.
The Safeguard American Food Exports (SAFE) Act would ban the slaughter of horses for meat in the U.S. as well as the live export of horses for meat.
This act not only protects horses but it may protect the lives of humans as well.
Horse meat is often treated with a drug that is a known carcinogen and may cause liver failure in humans.
Michael’s last campaign for horses involved supporting changes to strengthen the Horse Protection Act, which would re-examine the use of certain training devices on horses.
