“Forbes” Publishes Veg Friendly National Gourmet Institute Restaurant List

Forbes contributor Larry Olmstead has chosen to highlight a few great restaurants in the U.S. that also happen to like vegetarians and vegans.
The National Gourmet Institute for Food and Health focuses on what it calls “health-supportive cooking” and has published its guide of restaurants serving food that fits its motto.
Olmstead writes:
“NGI claims that its accredited, comprehensive and mostly-vegetarian program is the only one of its kind in the world. As result, its alums are at the forefront of the current healthier restaurant dining trend, and NGI just released a list of its Top 10 alumni restaurants for 2013. Personally I still love a great steakhouse or barbecue joint, but I know that is not everybody’s cup of tea. These days I get press releases weekly touting all sorts of restaurant “Best Lists,” from service to cocktail menus, and most of them are as shallow as they are useless. This one might actually be good for you.”
The list contains descriptions of meals served at places like Boulder’s Arugula Ristorante, which features both vegetarian and gluten-free fare. The Encuentro Café & Wine Bar in Oakland, California has a vegan Macadamia Nut Pate, a Farro Salad and bruschettas topped with locally grown vegetables. Traditional diner style food can be found at the Good Karma Café in Red Bank, NJ. Choose from Tempeh Reuben, Live Nachos (raw nachos with cashew sour cream, guacamole and sunflower crumble) or the Elvis Smoothie (bananas, peanut butter and soymilk).
