Quantcast Vegetarian Star“Washington Post” Joe Yonan “Eat Your Vegetables” Vegetarian Cookbook

Joe Yonan Eat Your Vegetables

The editor of the Washington Post food section has gone vegetarian and plans to share the recipes that now get his best critique.

The 204 page book from Ten Speed Press will be available in August.

Joe Yonan begin documenting his plant-based journey with his Cooking for One column.

Each new vegetarian food adventure would correspond to a similar expedition in his kitchen.

In a recent column in the Washington Post, Yonan wrote:

“I’ve been talking — and writing — about this trend in my dietary choices for a while now, with frequent mentions in my Cooking for One columns about beans (“I started eating less meat”), veggie burgers (“moving away from meat eating”) and grilling (“eating very little meat”).”

While the editor of a major food column in the U.S. going vegetarian may have sounded farfetched decades ago,  in the age of increasing environmental awareness, animal welfare concerns and diseases linked to the consumption of animal products, the trend is not only newsworthy, but worth following.

Yonan continued in the Post, saying:

“One interview subject, founder of an imitation-meat company, said something along the lines of, “The food editor of a major daily newspaper is vegetarian? This is huge!” And several food journalists have confessed, under their breath, that if it weren’t for their jobs, they’d do the same thing.”

Hopefully, Yonan has paved the way for more foodies to start exercising their freedom of the veggie press.
