Quantcast Vegetarian StarAl Gore Requests Vegan Meal To Promote “The Future”

Al Gore The Future: Six Drivers of Global Change

Al Gore has taken some criticism in the past about being the environmentalist who still eats meat, but he’s doing his part by requesting a vegan meals while he promotes his latest book on global change, The Future: Six Drivers of Global Change.

The Riverfront Times reported the former Vice President requested a meal that was not only vegan, but also nut and oil free for his visit to the St. Louis County Library headquarters.

The menu for the event will include “roasted carrot bisque with radish kimchi, smoked butternut squash puttanesca over lemon-scented Missouri wild rice and quinoa-stuffed dolmas with raisins and mint.”

Gore has previously emphasized that while he has not adopted a completely vegetarian diet, he understands the impact meat consumption has on the planet and advises people at least take steps to reduce their intakes.

“It’s absolutely correct that the growing meat intensity of diets around the world is one of the issues connected to this global crisis – not only because of the CO2 involved, but also because of the water consumed in the process,” Gore told ABC television.

“I’m not a vegetarian, but I have cut back sharply on the meat that I eat.”
