TOMS Vegan-Friendly Shark Shoe Benefits Marine Conservation
Written by Vegetarian Star on August 9th, 2012 in Animal Issues, Fashion.
What better way to celebrate The Discovery Channel’s 25th anniversary of Shark Week than by buying a pair of vegan-friendly TOMS shoes that benefit the creatures and their habitats?
The Shark Shoe features silhouettes of the endangered animals on the inside of the soles for both men’s and women’s styles. Each shoe consists of a light madras upper, vegan-friendly canvas insole, exclusive shark print liner, one-piece outsole for flexibility and durability and will cost you roughly $54.
Proceeds from the shoe go towards shark conversation efforts.
The Shark Shoe was inspired by TOMS founder Blake Mycoskie’s shark-diving experience with the RJ Dunlap Marine Conservation Program.
The RJ Dunlap Marine Conservation program has three main missions:
- Advance marine conservation through cutting edge science and education projects
- Provide students with opportunities for career development in a variety of disciplines through practical hands-on field experience
- Advance public understanding of ocean and coastal conservation issues through innovative outreach opportunities
