Quantcast Vegetarian StarTom Parker Bowles “Duchess Of Cornwall” Son Angers Vegans

Tom Parker Bowles, the son of the Duchess of Cornwall, has ticked off quite a few vegan parents for criticizing their decision to raise their kids as such.

The author of The Year of Eating Dangerously, who’s admitted to eating dog, cobra and foie gras, said on an episode of UK’s ITV’s This Morning that, “‘All these ridiculous hippies who bang on and tell us that we shouldn’t be eating this, we should be eating vegan raw diets…for children, that’s child abuse, I think.'”

This comment was made while preparing fish cakes from salmon and cod and adding butter to the batter mix.

He added that, “Everyone needs butter because butter is flavour, and this whole idea that you don’t give children fat…..too much fat is bad, but children need fat for their brains to develop.”

The show prompted much reaction from Twitter, with critics calling him everything from an “ignorant ass” to being “ignorant of the vegan diet.”

Well, he may at least be a little ignorant of how vegans get their fats. Vegan parents who forbid butter on bread are probably giving the kiddies ample supplies of healthy, plant-based fats like the ones found in oils like olive, peanut, soy and flaxseed, nuts like walnuts and avocado.

The children’s brains–as well as their  bodies–are probably developing just fine.
