Everyone has a favorite food they find hard to part with once making the big decision to go vegan. Actress Anne Hathaway said giving up cheese was the hardest part she’s played offscreen.
In the July issue of Allure, Hathaway said she stuck to some pretty strict dietary rules to shape up for the catsuit in the Batman saga The Dark Knight Rises.
“Cheese is amazing … (but) once you’re over the cheese hump, there’s nothing really left,” she said.
Go Dairy Free has a few recommendations for those like Anne who need to get over the cheese hump.
One option is choosing foods that are already cheese-free, like rice and pasta dishes, stir fries, salads, vegetable and grain combinations.
The biggest motivation may be to do it for your health.
Let’s keep something in mind, although cheese has become a very mainstream food, most doctors and nutritionists would not recommend it for a healthy diet, dairy free or not,” the site reads.
“Cheese is typically loaded with saturated fat, and is a very dense milk protein source (high allergen). Most diets that support some dairy consumption, still recommend eating only nonfat and low-fat cheeses, yuck! Cheese does not provide you with any out of the ordinary nutrients, but it sure can help you pack on the pounds.”
