Amanda Cohen‘s cookbook, Dirt Candy: A Cookbook: Flavor-Forward Food from the Upstart New York City Vegetarian Restaurant, is set for release in August.
The book combines vegetable-based recipes with comics on chefs, cooking and cuisine. Some of those comics contained in the owner of New York’s esteemed vegetable restaurant and Iron Chef competitor’s book were previewed in 2010, and now, a few more sneak peaks are available from Eater.
The images feature the daily grind of a chef’s life, from the physical injuries such as burns and bruises obtained in the kitchen, to the hectic pace driven by an overflow of customers during the right time of the day. There are even a few comics illustrating Cohen’s appearance on Iron Chef America, where she worked with the secret ingredient of broccoli.
One comic is devoted entirely to the question of “why isn’t corn on the menu?”
Hopefully this question will be answered in another picture drawn by artist Ryan Dunlavey, with whom Cohen collaborated with for the book.
Dirt Candy: A Cookbook will be available in August. Visit Eater to view the sample comics.
