Bobby Flay Scared Of Grilled Veggie Burgers–You Don’t Have To Be

Bobby Flay recommends grilling burgers for dad’s big day, and gave some tips in a recent video posted just in time for Father’s Day.
While the Bobby’s Burger Palace restaurant owner claims to be the authority on grilling meat, he’s a little in the dark on grilling veggie patties.
“Veggie burgers don’t exist in my life,” Flay said. “I haven’t found a good one yet. I don’t want to eat lentils and quinoa pasted together … I’m just not interested in that.”
Fortunately, veggie burgers made from more things than lentils and quinoa can exist in dad’s life, and here are a few tips for grilling meatless patties that everyone–including Flay–should take notes on.
- Oil the grill well to prevent the patties from sticking to it. Veggie burgers are lower in fat than beef ones, so the natural “juices” that would normally lubricate them are missing.
- Go grill-less and season veggie burgers with liquid smoke instead, giving them the flavor of the outdoors–even if they were nuked in the microwave.
- Green Your Grill. Electric grills don’t produce smoke and may be more eco-friendly than charcoal.
