HBO will kick off a seven-week documentary series on Monday, June 18 at 9 PM ET/PST that examines the complex relationship between humans and dogs, One Nation Under Dog.
We are a nation of dog lovers, with about 43,021,000 households in the U.S. owning at least one. But we also allow several million dogs to be euthanized each year and issues like animal cruelty have not yet become extinct.
Divided into three parts, fear, loss and betrayal, One Nation follows eight case studies involving humans and dogs.
“”One Nation Under Dog: Stories of Fear, Loss & Betrayal” reveals the sobering realities behind America’s obsession with dogs,” writes the Humane Society of the United States. “It uses startling images to show not only how far some dog lovers will go for their pets but also how far the nation has to go before it treats all dogs humanely.”
The documentary’s webpage lists several resources one can turn to for canine pet issues, such as spaying and neutering and adopting.
